Part 1
0:00Between the picker's cart and the packer's bench there's a gap — and on a busy floor, that gap is where orders get mixed up, packed wrong, or simply lost. Staging areas close it. In this video: how the office sets areas up, how a picker records where the stack went, what the office sees while it waits, and how the packer turns the area into a recorded quality check.
0:23A staging area is just a location whose type is staging. On the Locations page, the zone S tab shows four of them, S-1 through S-4. An area is anywhere a picked stack waits for the packer — a table, a cart lane, a taped square on the floor. Name them the way the floor already talks about them.
0:43Adding more is the same bulk create you use for bins. Zone S, aisles five and six, a code template — and the part that matters: type, staging. Preview, confirm, and S-5 and S-6 exist. Pickers see them on their next batch; there's nothing else to configure.
1:01The office's window onto staging lives on the Ship station page: one row per area, in table order, so you can match the stacks you see across the floor to orders without walking over. Right now every area is open. Let's put something in one.

1:19Now to the warehouse floor, where the handoff actually happens.
1:24The pick queue already knows about the areas: the Staging chip at the top says how many are taken, so a picker knows before starting whether there's room on the table. Dana opens the Bluegrass Industrial order — two lines of Apex bearings — and starts picking.
1:41Each pick line leads with where to go — the bin, with its zone and aisle read straight from the location record. Grab the quantity, tap Picked, and the next line loads. Two lines, done.
1:53All lines picked. Hand off to packing — tap, and tap again.
1:58Here's the new question: where did you put it? Every open area is a big button — S-1 through S-6, all open right now. Dana sets the cart in S-3 and taps S-3. That's the whole handoff: one tap, and the stack has an address. If the packer is standing right there, Handed directly to packer skips the area entirely.
2:19Back on the queue: staged at S-3, and the Staging chip now reads one of six. An area holds one batch at a time — a taken area isn't offered to the next picker, so two stacks never share a square.
Part 3
2:35Meanwhile in the office, the staging panel shows S-3 holding the Bluegrass Industrial order, with how long it's been sitting. A stack that waits more than two hours turns amber — a stack dying on the table is exactly what this panel exists to catch. Will-call orders are marked instead of alarmed, because waiting on the customer is normal.
2:57The order itself carries the area too. On the order page, the batch row shows Completed with its area, S-3 — so anyone answering the phone can say exactly where that order is standing right now.
3:11And it's on paper. Print the release now and the header reads Staged in area S-3 — so a printed pick list on a clipboard sends the packer to the same square the phone does.

3:24Back on the floor, it's the packer's turn.
3:28On the Pack queue, the area is the headline: an Area S-3 badge sits right beside the order number, at the same weight. The packer doesn't scan anything to work out which stack is which — read the badge, walk to S-3, pick up the stack, open the batch.
3:44The pack screen leads with the same badge, then the point of the exercise: check each line. Notice Mark packed is greyed out — zero of two lines checked. Nothing gets boxed until every line has been looked at.
3:58With the stack in front of you, tap the box on a line once the goods match it — part number and quantity. Each tap is recorded with who checked it and when. That's the quality check: correctness confirmed at the pack bench, not discovered at the customer's dock.
4:14Both lines checked, and Mark packed lights up. One carton. Mark packed — tap, and tap again. The moment it's packed, S-3 frees up for the next picker, and the batch is on to shipping, which we covered in Pack and Ship.
4:29Set the areas up once. Tap the area when you stage. Read the badge when you pack, and check every line. That's the pick to pack handoff — and nobody has to ask where the order went.
