0:00Every part in the warehouse has an item record: who owns it, what it's called, how it's sold, and everything that has ever happened to it. In this video, we'll create a new item and then read a seasoned one like a pro.
0:14From the Inventory page, click New item. First: the owner. Every item belongs to one supply partner — this bearing is Apex's.
0:23The part number goes in exactly the way the supply partner prints it — dashes and all. Behind the scenes, ConsignTrak also stores a normalized version, which is why searches work no matter how anybody types it later.
0:38Set the selling unit — each, in this case — and optionally a category, a weight, and a home warehouse location. The essentials are just three fields; the rest can come later.
0:50Create the item, and here's its detail page: zero on hand — it's brand new — with empty history sections that will fill up the moment stock arrives.
1:01Now compare that with an item that's been working for a living. Back in Inventory, let's open the 6205 bearing.
1:09Stock Levels tells the real story: on hand is what's physically in the warehouse, committed is what open orders have claimed, and available is what you can still promise. When a customer calls, available is the number you quote.
1:24And Recent History is the audit trail — every receiving, every order, every adjustment, newest first. On consignment, this list is what you show the supply partner when they ask where their stock went. Nothing moves without a line here.
1:40That's the item master: three fields to create, a lifetime of history to read. Next, we'll put the search to a real test — finding anything in the warehouse in seconds.
